MICHAEL Nelson says the opportunity to front his own football coaching programme “ticked a lot of boxes”.
The former Hartlepool United, Norwich City, Cambridge United and Barnet defender quit his role as Jimmy Dean’s assistant at Scunthorpe United to take over an academy closer to his home at Step 6 club Chester-le-Street United.
The unique coaching programme helps develop college players, giving them the opportunity to get games in the National League System – believed to be the first of its kind in the country.
