Bromsgrove Sporting could be looking towards a brand new era after being approached by a three-man consortium keen to take over the club.
The move will bring an end to Mike Burke’s near seven-year reign as chairman following his appointment to the role in October 2016.
In his place comes Bromsgrove-based football administrator Brian Seymour-Smith, who will act as chairman designate and work alongside top former scout Paul Molesworth and local businessman Craig Cotterill.
Molesworth, who has scouted for the likes of Bristol Rovers, Port Vale, Kidderminster Harriers and Walsall, will become director of football at the Victoria Ground, while Cotterill will take on the role of commercial director.
Graham Scott has already stepped down as director of football but will stay on at the Southern League Pre-mier Central club as vice-chairman.
The board have, by a majority vote, invited the consortium on to the board of directors with major sponsorship funding supposedly in place to take the club forward.
A deal is close to being finalised with the proposal ready to be presented to shareholders in due course. Burke, who will step down as chairman after the Bank Holiday clash with Stourbridge on August 28, said in a statement: “The club has been approached by a consortium wishing to come on board and run the club.
“They have also stated that they have the means to bring in major sponsorship funding (on a commission basis) to take the club forward.
“The current board has met with them on several occasions, and gone through their proposals in detail.
“Obviously there is a lot more to their business proposal and it will be available for shareholders at the appropriate time.
“I have agreed to step down as chairman and Graham [Scott] has already stepped down as director of football to leave the positions clear.
“I will step down after the Stourbridge bank holiday match to allow for a hand-over period.”
Bromsgrove Sporting was founded by a supporters consortium in 2009 with the plan to buy Bromsgrove Rovers and to take it out of administration.
Rovers were eventually expelled from the Southern League in August 2010 and Sporting inherited sole use of the Victoria Ground.
