Robins eye Shots ace Stokes

‘s top talent Josh Stokes is at the centre of a Championship tug-ofwar with Bristol City leading the way for his signature.

The 19-year-old is one of ‘s top young prospects after having scored 15 goals in 28 games for Tommy Widdrington’s Shots since joining from in a £5,000 deal in the summer.

Now he could be set to earn the Shots a £250,000 windfall with Bristol City hoping to secure a deal in this January transfer window.

Norwich City and Sunderland are also reportedly interested in the teenager, but it is believed the Shots favour a deal which will involve Stokes being sent back to the EBB Stadium on loan for the rest of Aldershot’s season with Widdrington’s men very much in the play-off mix after an impressive campaign.

Bristol Live say that positive talks have taken place between the clubs this week with the midfielder a product of the Ipswich Town academy, where Robins head coach Liam Manning began his coaching career. Stokes spent seven years at his hometown club before being released aged 16.

Stokes also shares the same representative as Bristol City’s new loan signing Scott Twine, who joined from Burnley earlier this month.
