Trust to help Town in pitch battle

CONCERN: Kevin Sturmey

‘s Supporters Trust have urged its members to donate and help save the club’s season after bad weather led to a third straight home postponement.

After another week of heavy rain put paid to the visit of on Tuesday night, leaving the Peacocks in danger of relegation in South and facing a hefty backlog of fixtures.

The problem has been exacerbated by the club’s groundshare agreement with south-west rivals , which leaves the worn Wordsworth Drive pitch still having to stage TWENTY home league games in the space of just eight weeks – eight for Taunton, 12 for Truro.

Welcome support from the terraces came in the week Taunton announced that all monies owed to HMRC – forming the subject of a winding up petition issued against the club in January – have been paid in full, resulting in both the petition and a transfer embargo on the club being lifted.

Club chairman Kevin Sturmey admits though that it is not yet “free from its financial challenges” and say the condition of the pitch and inability to complete fixtures is a “serious concern”.

In a statement, the Supporters Trust said: “Another home match abandoned means no income for the club at a time when we really need it.

“Now is the time to get behind the team, behind the management, behind the directors, behind the club.

“The Taunton Town Independent Supporter’s Association (TTISA) are committed to do everything in its power to do just that – but we need your help!”
