striker JJ Lacey has left Manchester City hotshot Erling Haaland in the shade – by becoming this season’s top scorer in the !

The 25-year-old scored ten goals in six games as the Waders reached the fourth qualifying round. It proved enough for Lacey to claim the Mitre Golden Ball.

Lacey received his prize at yesterday’s final between Manchester rivals City and United. City’s Norwegian striker Haaland went into the showpiece match with five goals to his name from two games.

“This is such an honour and something I will never forget,” said Lacey ahead of the final. “I get to take the match ball out which is such an honour because, as a Luton fan, you never expect to be here in a cup final!

“I was a bit worried when Haaland got five goals against Luton – but breathed a sigh of relief when he didn’t get a hat-trick or anything in the next round!

“The cup is brilliant. The beauty of it is that it is a competition for everyone, starting at all the way to the Premier League.”
