The gradual, and apparently inexorable, professionalisation of Non-League has come at a cost.
Things on and off the field are vastly different now to when The NLP started, and even more so if we look back to the late 80s and early 90s. But is it a price worth paying?
It doesn’t seem that long ago when Non-League football meant rocking up to the turnstile at 2.45; buying a (printed) programme, Bovril, and pie before taking your regular spot on the terraces to watch 22 blokes kick seven bells out of each other on muddy, rutted pitches.
