A CROWD of 1,273 – the highest of the National League Cup so far – watched as Forest Green Rovers were edged out by Manchester United’s young guns in an opening group thriller at The New Lawn on Wednesday night.
Steve Cotterill’s Rovers made the perfect start inside four minutes when Joe Quigley neatly played through Christian Doidge who calmly slotted into the far corner.
But after Malachi Sharpe swept home a low cross to draw United level on 28 minutes, Ethan Ennis drove home to put the visitors in front.
