Forest Green Bag Striker Hughes

boss Ady Pennock has made vastly experienced striker and former £5m man Lee Hughes his first permanent signing at the New Lawn.

Hughes, 37, scored 14 goals in 34 games for Port Vale after signing from last January. He arrives at Rovers from Vale Park on an 18-month contract.

Boss Pennock, who has also signed Crystal Palace defender Jerome Binnom-Williams on a one-month loan said: “He’s come to play , he’s not come for money and I’m chuffed to have him on board. He has the experience we need and I believe he’ll score goals.”

The former Coventry and West Brom striker worked with current Rovers assistant Dave Kevan at Notts County and the frontman has now dropped down two divisions to get first-team football

We had a chat and Lee wants regular first team football. Obviously with the emergence of Jordan Hugill we don’t want to block that avenue to him.

“The thing is he wants to play regular football and I can’t give him a regular place so he is joining Forest Green Rovers on an 18 month deal, which he is happy with,” said Port Vale boss Micky Adams

“We wish him well and we thank him for his contribution since he has been here, not least of all his goals in the promotion winning season and certainly the big highlight for me was his three goals against Burton.

“He is a fantastic kid, he’s not what the perception of him is, he has been terrific and I wish him well. I have got great things to say about him.”
