GUISELEY have started their search for a new manager after sacking boss Mark Bower following a winless start to the new National League campaign.
The Lions just about retained their spot in Non-League‘s top flight last season, finishing one point and one place above the relegation zone.
Former Bradford defender Bower was confident of a more positive season this time around but that hasn’t been the case so far.
Defeats to Eastleigh, Wrexham and Dagenham & Redbridge were followed by losses to newly promoted pair North Ferriby United and Solihull Moors.
Bower’s side were 2-1 up with ten minutes left against Solihull but capitulated late on with goals from Andy Brown and Harry White consigning the Lions to their fifth straight defeat.
Guiseley say they felt a change in management was “necessary” and Bower, as well as assistant Danny Boshell, was sacked after the latest defeat in the West Midlands.
Bower led the Lions to promotion through the National League North play-offs in 2014-15 but the club are now searching for a replacement as they look to avoid a return to Step 2.
A Guiseley statement read: “Following the run of poor results since the start of the season, the board of Guiseley AFC have made the decision to part company with manager Mark Bower and his assistant Danny Boshell.
“The current run of five successive defeats sees the club struggling at the foot of the National League table and the board felt that a change was necessary to address the position.
“Centre-back Adam Lockwood has agreed to take interim charge of the team and he will take training on Tuesday evening.
“Adam will remain in charge until a permanent replacement is appointed and he will be considered along with all other applicants for the job. Martin Stringfellow and Steve Dickinson will continue their roles as part of the backroom staff.
“The club wishes to place on record its thanks to Mark and Danny for their efforts over the last three years, during which time promotion to the National League has seen the club operating at its highest ever level. The club wishes Mark and Danny all the best for the future.”
