ADAM LOCKWOOD’S new strike duo made an instant impact to help Guiseley pick up their first win since April 30, thrashing Yorkshire rivals York City 6-1.
The match looked set to be abandoned with the Nethermoor floodlights failing multiple times before half-time as Guiseley lead 4-1 after coming back from a goal down.
Following a 37-minute delay, the game resumed and Guiseley went on to add two further goals to compound York boss Jackie McNamara’s misery.
It was the Lions’ first National League win for five months with Lockwood’s new signings Jake Cassidy and Jermaine Hylton, pictured above, both getting on the scoresheet.
Cassidy, the former Wolves and Tranmere striker, joins the club after leaving Oldham Athletic at the end of August following a year with the Latics.
Hylton, meanwhile, is back in Non-League after an impressive spell with Southern Premier side Redditch United from 2012-15.
His form earned a move into the Football League with Swindon Town but with first team action hard to come by, Hylton has joined Guiseley on loan with a view to a permanent transfer.
Delighted Lions boss Lockwood told the club’s website: “I wanted to improve the squad, we’ve had a lot of injuries but when all the lads come back we’ll have one hell of a strong squad.
“I’ve had some hard decisions to make, sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t. I don’t want players to be happy when they’re not playing – competition can only be a good thing.
“If we can maintain those standards, we’ll give ourselves a chance in every game and that’s what this group of lads are capable of.
“The floodlights going off was just our luck! It would have been a shame had the game been called off but I’m grateful for everybody’s work to get them going again.”
