LIAM MCDONALD says the opportunity to step up to National League level with Solihull Moors was simply “too good to turn down”.
The NLP revealed last week that the Moors were planning to appoint Hednesford Town boss McDonald as their new manager following the departure of Marcus Bignot to League Two side Grimsby Town.
And, after a weekend of deliberation, the young boss has agreed to leave the Pitmen and take the reins at Damson Park.
McDonald has caught the eye in his brief managerial career so far, transforming a struggling Redditch side into Step 3 promotion contenders with a team full of exciting young talent.
The Reds finished second in the Southern Premier last term but lost in the play-offs to Leamington before the boss made the switch to Evo-Stik NPL Premier side Hednesford, who had just been relegated from the National League North.
Following a brief stint at Keys Park, McDonald will now have the chance to pit his wits against the best Non-League has to offer.
He will be joined by assistant manager Nick Green and coach David Bridgwater from Hednesford and the trio will work alongside experienced head coach Keith Bertschin who was appointed last week.
“At the age of 31, the opportunity to manage Solihull was just too good to turn down,” McDonald told the club’s website.
“I’m a young, ambitious manager who’s excited to carry on the good work Marcus Bignot has done over the years because he’s transformed this club.
“It’s a fantastic group of players that I’m looking forward to working with and, along with Nick and David, the experience Keith will add to the group will only help with my development.
“After speaking with the club, in particular Jed McCrory, the ideas and what they are striving to achieve at this football club made me want to be a part of it.
“The experience guys like Jed have are invaluable not only to the future of Solihull Moors but also my development.”
