THE Republic of Ireland weren’t the only boys in green celebrating victory last night – Northwich Victoria stunned National League side Boreham Wood to make it through to the FA Cup second round.
The pair drew 1-1 last Saturday and few would have fancied the Vics to go down and win at Meadow Park on Monday night. But that’s exactly what they did.
The lowest ranked club left in the competition will now travel to League Two side Northampton Town on Saturday, December 5.
Goals in each half from Jordan Williams and Ryan Astles put the Evo-Stik NPL Division One North side in charge and a late Charlie MacDonald goal for Boreham Wood was nothing more than a consolation.
The result meant Jim Gannon’s men added Wood to their list of FA Cup victims so far which also includes Runcorn Town, AFC Blackpool, Hyde United, Marine and Chorley.
