LEON BROADHURST doesn’t care where he plays on Saturday as long as he’s in the Stourbridge starting line-up for the crunch FA Cup clash with Eastleigh.
The veteran utility man, 31, has mostly played in central midfield for Gary Hackett’s side this season but he’s been used in more or less every outfield position during his 11 years at the club.
The Glassboys welcome National League big-spenders Eastleigh to Amblecote on Saturday, hoping to reach the FA Cup third round for the first time ever.
Broadhurst has been part of some memorable Cup clashes before with Stourbridge against the likes of Walsall, Plymouth, Stevenage as well as Kidderminster and Dover this season.
And he is hoping for another famous day in front of a packed crowd with tickets selling out in record time.
“Our main focus is the league and we can’t let our attention get too far away from that,” Broadhurst, who is nearing 600 appearances for the club, told The NLP.
“But the FA Cup is always a massive bonus. The game has been in the back of everybody’s minds since we beat Dover.
“Eastleigh are two leagues above us for a reason but we won’t fear them. They’ll come as favourites but we’re playing well and we’ve got a great chance of pulling off another shock.”
A Stourbridge Cup run has almost become expected every year and the Evo-Stik NPL Premier side are now just 90 minutes away from a potential money-spinning tie against a Premier League giant.
“I’ve played in every position for Stourbridge over my time at the club but I’ve been playing some of the best football of my career this year alongside Tom Tonks in midfield,” Broadhurst added.
“We’ve got a great squad and a great management team who aren’t afraid to make big decisions.
“As long as I’m in the team, I don’t mind too much where I’m playing! If we play the same team that won at Dover, I believe we can win.”
