FA Cup first round draw throws up some interesting ties for Non-League sides

THE FA Cup first round draw was made on Monday night with lowest ranked side Westfields handed a home draw while Merstham have been rewarded with a tie against Oxford United.

Midland League Premier side Fields saw off Ryman Premier leaders Leiston on Saturday and they will face another side, Curzon Ashton, after they beat York City in their replay on Monday night.

“We are delighted we are at home, six home games on bounce now this season,” Westfields chief executive Andy Morris told BBC Sport. “I’m quietly confident with a home draw.

“Getting this far is a huge bonus – we have earned enough money so far to get us through this season and keep us going into next season.”

Merstham overcame big spending Ebbsfleet United and have been given one of the ties of the round as they will host League One outfit Oxford United – surely in consideration for live TV coverage.

Elsewhere, St Albans host Carlisle, Southport welcome Fleetwood and Stamford could go to Hartlepool if they manage to beat managerless Wrexham in their replay.

Evo-Stik NPL Premier side Spennymoor Town, meanwhile, will travel to League One side MK Dons with the potential of a big Cup shock.

Boss Jason Ainsley said: “What an occasion. It is all a reward for the hard work and fantastic opportunity for the supporters to go to the game and hopefully see us win.”
