GUERNSEY may be unable to compete in The FA Cup and FA Trophy due to financial terms outlined by the Football Association.
The Channel Islands club are eligible to play in the two tournaments for the first time in their short history but The FA have placed a number of caveats on their involvement.
Guernsey must pay all travel and accommodation costs for 25 opposition players and three match officials for any game played at Footes Lane, plus the club will have to split net gate receipts with their opponents.
Further FA stipulations state that if a tie at Footes Lane was postponed, it would be replayed at a UK ground, with the Green Lions footing the bill. If an away tie is drawn, any replay will also take place at a UK ground hired by Guernsey.
This has forced the Green Lions to launch a fund-raising initiative to enable them to participate in the prestigious competitions.
The #60Saviours campaign needs 60 individuals to make a £100 donation to the club for every game played in either competition to underwrite costs.
Speaking about the FA’s stringent rules and the club’s new initiative, chairman Steve Dewsnip said: “This deal is just not viable for us to compete in the competitions without any additional financial support
“But they are the terms that the FA has enforced and we have to comply with them if we’re to live the dream and play in the world’s most famous club competition.
“We know how loyal our fans and local businesses are and if we can raise this money, then we can all live the dream together.
“We need their help more than ever and I hope we can get the funds we need to start our exciting journeys in these iconic cup competitions.”
players and fans via syndicates pledgeing £10 per cup to underwrite the £6000 cost per game and business pledging £100 per game, looks like GFC will be able to enter the Trophy and FA Cup despite the Discriminatory terms set by the FA
