THERE was to be no fairy tale for North West Counties League minnows Ashton against a Chorley side from three leagues higher up the pyramid.
Before a record crowd of 610 the hosts did themselves proud. It took a wonder strike by Nick Haughton seven minutes from time to settle the tie.
Ashton had the better of the first-half chances, the best of them a fierce shot by Joel Brownhill that brought a smart save from Matt Urwin. The keeper also had to turn over a Charlie Munro free-kick.
