THE OLD adage that goals change games was clearly true in this stoppage-ridden cup tie of countless free kicks and four yellow cards for each side.
Spennymoor were the more assertive side in the first half and in the opening minutes Chorley keeper Matt Urwin pulled off a superb save from a Rob Ramshaw header – the first of four top-draw saves by Urwin.
For all their enterprise, the Moors were undone in the last minute of the half when Ntumba Massanka was shoved over in the box and Chris Holroyd dispatched the penalty.
