GAINSBOROUGH Trinity progressed to the first round proper with goals by Ashley Worsfold and Nathan Jarman.
The second-half strikes were enough to see off a resolute Rangers, who paid the price for failing to convert chances when they were on top.
Worsfold opened the scoring on 55 minuteswhen he latched on to Nathan Stainfield’s headed clearance.
The striker then raced clear to beat advancing goalkeeper Bradley Caswell with an angled shot.
Caswell was fortunate to stay on the pitch a minute later when workhorse Worsfold chased a hopeful ball over the top.
