HERTFORD edged out Grays to progress thanks to a late winner from player-boss Ben Herd.
After a quiet start, both sides seemed refreshed by the water break and Chris Sery struck a post for the visitors, before Deimar Cardoso put the Blues ahead with a smart turn and finish.
Grays levelled straight after the break when Sam Bantick capitalised on a defensive mistake.
The visitors edged ahead from an Aron Gordon header, but sub Harry Peterson quickly levelled for the hosts with a superb volley over his shoulder.
