■TONBRIDGE edged what was always going to be a tense encounter, thanks to prolific striker Nathan Elder.
The home side needed the points to maintain a play-off challenge and their visitors to preserve their Ryman Premier status, which now looks almost impossible.
Half chances fell to Angels’ Alex Akrofi, Nick Wheeler and Ugo Udoji in the first ten minutes.
But the Suds gradually grew into the game and Liam Wales fashioned a couple of decent chances before Sam Corcoran’s 17th-minute piledriver flew just wide with Angels keeper Jonny Henly a spectator.
