AVELEY and tenants Grays Athletic have been forced to cancel both of their scheduled home preseason friendlies – and two charity matches – after mindless vandals wreaked havoc at the former’s Mill Field ground on Tuesday night.
They tore up tiles, smashed glass and destroyed fence posts, prompting club secretary and vice-chairman of the Isthmian League, Craig Johnson, to make a desperate plea to the Essex town’s community.
