GAVIN Liddle’s early strike was enough to earn South Shields a narrow victory over National League North newcomers Scarborough in the north-east.
A well-worked short corner saw former Hartlepool defender Liddle find the net with a first-time volley from just inside the penalty area.
Sam Hodgson and Dylan Mottley-Henry almost doubled the lead, Mackenzie Healey then denied by the Seadogs trialist keeper, while Hodgson went close again.
