CHRIS Rigg scored a last-gasp winner as Julio Arca’s reign at South Shields got off to a losing start against Sunderland in front of a 4,000-strong record crowd.
Shields took the lead half an hour in as Jordy Mongoy teed up Paul Blackett to tap in.
Sunderland were level just after the break when Isaac Lihadji’s cross was nodded home by Luis Hemir Semedo.
The Mariners were back ahead on 56 minutes through Blackett’s second as he cut inside Luke O’Nien to slot home.
