ROBERT Briggs was the toast of South Tyneside as his ten-year commemoration Mariners Cup went the way of National League North outfit South Shields in a seven-goal thriller against Grimsby Town.
Shields broke the deadlock after a Sam Hodgson-Mackenzie Heaney one-two on the left resulted in Heaney’s cross finding Bryan Taylor’s head at the back post.
Grimsby striker Charles Vernam then levelled, capitalising inside the six-yard box following a Tyrell Warren cross from the right.
