A CROWD of just under 2,000 watched Southend United edge past Essex neighbours Chelmsford in an entertaining affair.
The Shrimpers’ winner came after just four minutes when Ollie Kensdale crossed for Josh Walker to notch his fourth goal of pre-season.
Southend could have doubled their lead shortly after but Harry Cardwell’s fine lob over keeper Ted Collins drifted just wide.
Collins then saved well at the feet of Walker as he bore down on goal.
