THE world’s first vegan football club has unveiled new broccoli and carrot print football kits for the upcoming 2017-18 season, alongside announcing a new shirt sponsorship deal with Riverford Organic Farmers.
Forest Green Rovers, who currently sit second in the National League, introduced a fully vegan menu in October 2015 and the new kits reflect that plant-based ethos – with a green broccoli print for the home shirt and an orange carrot design for the away shirt.
The club has also launched a new kit sponsorship deal with Riverford Organic Farmers, which will see the veg box company’s logo appear on the away shirt during the season.
A spokesperson from Riverford Organic Farmers said: “We’re really excited to be a sponsor for Forest Green Rovers, especially as they are as enthusiastic about veg as we are!
“At Riverford our motto is ‘live life on the veg’, and it’s great to see a whole team dedicated to playing football on the veg!”
Rovers chairman Dale Vince, meanwhile, said: “I’d love to say something about this, but I’m too busy.”
The new kits will be made from a combination of sustainable materials, including hemp, pineapple fibre, bamboo and floral pois.
The kits are the latest sustainability initiative launched at Forest Green Rovers alongside the introduction of a fully vegan menu, an organic pitch, solar panels on the roof, a solar powered lawnmower and a fleet of electric cars.
