I WANT to congratulate Alvechurch for a magnificent season in winning the Midland League and Cup double.
I followed the Church in the mid-70s in the West Midlands League then all through the successful Southern League years through the 80s until work took me north in the early 90s. This coincided with a downward spiral for the club as they had to re-form and rebuild.
A year ago, they were unlucky to finish runnersup to a resurgent Hereford and with Step 5 leagues only offering one promotion place they had to go out again and win the title which they did in the penultimate game.
