LEWES boss Darren Freeman admitted he was sorry to lose star striker Jonte Smith – but happy to play a part in his big move to Oxford United.
The 25-year-old Bermudan international scored 56 goals in 121 appearances for the Rooks, had his contract with the club terminated by the Bostik Premier club this week to allow him to join the League One U’s for an undisclosed fee.
“When I first signed Jonte, the ultimate plan was to get him back playing League football,” Freeman said of the former Crawley Town, Met Police and Gloucester City striker.
