SLOUGH TOWN have turned to the old guard in a bid to bury the ghosts of their annus horribilis.
The Rebels picked up just 12 points from as many games before the season was curtailed – just months after battling for promotion in National League South.
This week, joint bosses Neil Baker and Jon Underwood confirmed the signings of four new players, including two former fans’ favourites in the shape of Scott Davies and Matthew Lench.
Wily midfielder Davies, formerly of Aldershot Town and Reading, is back at Arbour Park after a season away and, according to Baker, is just the man to help turn fortunes.
“Scott’s ability is undoubted,” Baker said. “However, he is also just a great guy and such a positive person to have around the changing room, and we feel that this has been missed in the season we’ve just had.
“His set-pieces are something we have not taken advantage of in the past as we usually had James Dobson, but will be something we will be using going forward.
“He is also as fit as he has been in a number of years, and we are delighted he is back with us.”
Midfielder Lench is also back at Slough having left the club to join National League Wealdstone in December.
He looked at home at Step 1 but fell out of favour at Grosvenor Vale under new boss Stuart Maynard.
Meanwhile, Wealdstone goalkeeping legend Jonathan North has joined the Rebels as replacement for Jack Turner, who left the club after four years last week.
North, who spent 10 years with the Stones, arrives from Hendon, where he had a short spell cut short by the pandemic.
Slough’s fourth new arrival is former Aldershot and Kingstonian striker Tom Derry, who joins from Braintree Town.
