■ JOHN ASKEY won his first game as York City manager as his team progressed against Blyth.
The Minstermen got off to the dream start with Mark Beck turning in Clayton Donaldson’s low cross just three minutes in.
And York nearly got a second minutes later when Akil Wright broke into the box only for Spartans to clear his square ball that would have resulted in a tap-in for Donaldson.
Kurt Willoughby went close just before the break, cutting inside and curling an effort inches wide.
