Storms Dudley and Eunice took a bite out of the Vanarama National League‘s weekend schedule, but in the games that did take place, the league leaders in each of the three divisions kept up their own storming form.
Our special guest this week is Scott Doe, whose vast experience as a defender of some pedigree is adding another voice and dimension to BT Sport’s coverage of the National League.
Scott joined a full complement of NL Full Timers, with host Luke, Rob, Chris, Thom and Dickie all present, to review another week’s worth of action and events, which is now available to download or stream via most good podcasting platforms:
There were plenty of incident-packed games to discuss as the promotion and play-off chase in the National League begins to simmer.
Stockport extended their winning run, overcoming Woking despite a red card for Liam Hogan, but a red card for Chesterfield‘s Curtis Weston precipitated the roof falling in on the Spireites as Solihull Moors produced a stunning comeback to claim all three points. Is the title race over? Is it County’s to lose now? The team give their views and Chris also spoke to the Cards defeated gaffer, Alan Dowson.
Boreham Wood experienced a rare defeat, losing in the league for the first time since October, when they lost to Maidenhead United. Alan Devonshire’s side so often perform like David when facing the Goliaths of the National League, and Scott shared his thoughts on why Maidenhead’s record is so good against the top teams.
Wrexham staged a comeback worthy of Lazarus to win at Wealdstone, aided by some good fortune and nobody in the ground spotting an infringement that slipped through the net, or more accurately into the net! The team have mixed views on whether Wrexham can be counted out of the race for the title and automatic promotion – who do you agree with?
Notts County secured an important three points over managerless Eastleigh, and with them also moving some players on recently we asked Scott if he feels the Spitfires play-off hopes have been shot down, and whether he had any clues as to who might be climbing into the cockpit to replace the departed Ben Strevens.
In the National League South, Dorking Wanderers got back to winning ways but suddenly have two Kent sides, Dartford and Maidstone United, gaining form and points just behind them. Thom is our man with in-depth knowledge of the South, and he gives his view on whether Dorking can be stopped, and which side is most likely to pick up the pieces if Wanderers wander off the promotion path.
The National League North schedule was laid waste to by the weather, and some late postponements had some fans fuming. Dickie reviews the games that did go ahead, the Heed, more commonly known as Gateshead, went further ahead (or should that be a-heed?) when they won a local derby with Spennymoor Town, and Kidderminster Harriers suffered a cruel setback when on loan defender Matt Preston’s serious injury forced the abandonment of their fixture with Alfreton Town.
