ALBERT ADOMAH took a trip down memory lane ahead of Non-League Day with a return to Harrow Borough – and he says he’d love to one day go back and manage them!
In an exclusive interview with the Southern League Premier Division South club, the 34-year-old QPR winger relived his favourite memories.
Adomah was a painter and decorator when he played under David Howell and after two seasons was spotted by Barnet as he went onto a fruitful career with Bristol City, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and boyhood QPR as well as 19 caps for Ghana.
Adomah said: “When I first came for trials with Harrow Borough, it was with the reserve team. I didn’t get noticed but didn’t give up and a few weeks later Chris (a friend of Howell) called him and asked him to give me a chance. I came down to train with the youth team and the rest is history. If it wasn’t for Chris making the call, then who knows what would have happened.
“At the time, I was doing a painting and decorating apprenticeship at Acton College and a very good boss of mine helped me by allowing me to have days off or to finish early to come to training.”
Adomah wants to surpass the two Premier League appearances for Middlesbrough with the Hoops.
“Once I’ve played more than three games in the Premier League my dreams will be completed and I can come back to Non-League with Harrow Borough – and I fancy the manager’s job,” he laughed.
Boro, who have started running free tickets for local schools, have lots planned for Non-League Day when they take on Merthyr Town (2pm ko).
Tickets are half-price for Premier League and EFL season ticket holders, as well as those going to England v Switzerland at Wembley later in the day, while it’s free for Under-16s.
Free entry will also be given to NHS and Emergency Service workers and the Armed Forces.
