John Akinde joins Braintree

John Akinde

Former National League winner John Akinde has signed for Braintree Town.

Angelo Harrop has continued the Iron’s squad overhaul with the acquisition of the forward, who was released by Colchester United in the summer.

An established career took in spells at Bristol City, Crawley Town and Portsmouth in the EFL. Following a season at Alfreton Town in 2013/14, Akinde spent four years with Barnet, helping them earn promotion to League Two. During his time with the Bees he became their all-time EFL top scorer, overtaking Sean Devine.

Since leaving Barnet he’s turned out for Lincoln City, Gillingham and Colchester United.

Braintree Town mark their return in Step 1 after a five-year absence on 10 August with a trip to Oldham Athletic.
