HASTINGS just fell short of a third Sussex derby win in a week after victories over Horsham and Whitehawk.
Louis Rogers tipped the ball over in the ninth minute as the hot conditions played a part in the slow pace of proceedings,with the first half petering out.
The second period saw United straight on the front foot and they took the lead in the 48th minute through Davide Rodari, assisted by some great pressing by Billy Vigar, who won the ball back high up the pitch.
