■INJURY-RAVAGED Welwyn Garden City returned to Hertfordshire from Thame after hanging on for a narrow victory courtesy of an early goal.
Only six minutes were on the clock when fine approach play from Henry Jones was emphatically finished by Layne Eadie. Harry Alexander thought he’d equalised after 17 minutes, but an assistant referee’s raised flag dashed his hopes.
Lewis Jones had two chances to extend the lead, but before the break he took too long in a good position and, after the break, he hit a post with a powerful shot.
