Gateshead legend James Curtis to leave the club after 15 years to take up role at Newcastle United Foundation

legend James Curtis is to leave the club after 15 years of service.
The Heed’s record appearance holder will be joining the Newcastle United Foundation in a full-time role.
Curtis has led Gateshead’s rise from the Northern Premier Division One all the way to ‘s top flight, including a play-off at in 2014.
He made 596 appearances in 13 years as a player before becoming a community officer at the club.
“It’ll be sad to leave Gateshead after so many years but it’s a good opportunity for me in my career and I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
“I’ve really enjoyed doing the community stuff with Gateshead. I’ll be working in schools at the foundation so I will take a lot of the things I’ve learnt here with me.
“I was grateful to be given the opportunity by the club after I stopped playing, it’s one I’ve really enjoyed.
“I’ve loved every minute of it here. I’ll always be back here whether it’s watching the team play or coming in to see everyone at the club. It’ll always have a special place in my heart. “
