The fans and players of Wrexham are looking forward to flying the flag for the National League at Ibrox in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Challenge Cup.
Instead of heading south next Saturday to take on Eastleigh, the Reds will be kicking off in their first competitive match at the home of Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers after their tie with Rangers Colts was penciled in.
Rangers Colts qualified for the last eight by beating Solihull Moors – the National League’s other flag-bearer in this year’s competition – on penalties in the previous round.
Dean Keates and his side will be on the road for the first time in the competition after reaching the latter stages with two home wins, on penalties against Ayr United and a 4-1 success over St Mirren Colts.
Officials at the Racecourse Ground announced next weekend’s clash in a club statement on Wednesday.
The Reds said: “Wrexham AFC are now able to confirm the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup quarter-final clash with Rangers Colts will take place at Ibrox Stadium on Saturday November 16.
“The match will kick off at 3pm, with tickets priced at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions. We will release full tickets and travel information once details are confirmed with Rangers.
“It will, of course, be Wrexham’s first competitive match at Ibrox Stadium – and our first away game in this competition, having beaten Ayr United and St Mirren Colts at home so far.
“Rangers Colts qualified for the quarter-finals after beating Solihull Moors – the other National League representative in this year’s competition – on penalties in the previous round.
“This announcement does mean Wrexham’s National League match away to Eastleigh, originally scheduled to take place on November 16, will now be re-arranged.
“Following discussions with Eastleigh, we will confirm the date of the re-arranged league match after this weekend’s FA Cup first round fixture.”
