BOBBY JOHNSON’S wonderful free-kick brought this uninspiring game to life after the break.
Neither side registered a shot on target in the first half, with Reds forward Richard Peniket coming the closest when he slid down to get on the end of a cross from Josh Wilde, but he failed to make contact with the ball.
Alfreton played a flat back five against relegation- threatened Ashton United, with the visitors invited to press, but they failed to capitalise and home keeper Sam Ramsbottom wasn’t tested.
