THIS SCRAPPY, largely featureless season’s curtain- raiser, while high on effort from both sides was equally low on goalmouth excitement and real entertainment.
Chorley were back in Non-League’s top-flight for the first time in 21 years following their thrilling promotion through the National League North play-offs last season.
In many ways it’s a step into the unknown for the Magpies, who remain part-time, but this was a tough opening day test.
