MAIDENHEAD United are on the hunt for a new striker after hotshot Danilo Orsi joined Harrogate Town.
The League Two side fought off stiff competition for the 25-year-old, who hit 19 goals last season to finish joint-second in the National League scoring charts.
“I’m over the moon at getting the chance to make the step up to the Football League and to join a team like Harrogate Town,” said Orsi, who joined the Magpies from National League South side Hampton & Richmond Borough last summer.
“I’ve heard great things about the club and the area so I’m really happy to be here and get the deal done. It’s going to be a big step up but it’s something since coming back to England that I’ve wanted to achieve. To play in the Football League was my goal.
“I know I had to work hard to get here, I’m just going to have to work doubly hard to stay here and hopefully help the team push on and have a successful season.”
Born in London, Orsi spent five years on a scholarship in the USA before returning to the UK in 2018. He subsequently played for East Thurrock and Hungerford Town before joining Hampton, where he notched 15 goals in 36 matches during the curtailed 2019-20 campaign.
Nowhere, however, was he as prolific as at Maidenhead, where a standout season was capped by a run of six goals in April – including a seven-minute hat-trick in the 6-0 demolition of Wealdstone.
“His record last season was very impressive and the thing I really like is that he scored plenty against the better teams in the National League,” said Harrogate boss Simon Weaver.
“All of his goals weren’t against the bottom third, he did the business against some really good sides. He’s an intelligent footballer, someone who comes alive inside the penalty area and a lad who we believe still has plenty of growth in him.”
Maidenhead said: “We can confirm that Danilo Orsi has completed a transfer to Harrogate Town. All at Maidenhead United wish Danilo the very best and thank him for his service to the club.”
