CLUBS and teammates, past and present, have united in their support for Stockport County striker Connor Jennings, who is suffering from a rare type of cancer.
The 29-year-old had experienced pain in his shoulder for several months after a fall in training. An MRI scan located a tumour in his upper arm, diagnosed as low-grade chondroid sarcoma.
The former Wrexham and Tranmere Rovers front man, who has not played for Stockport since February 6, will now undergo surgery.
A club statement read: “Connor had been suffering from pain in his shoulder for several months after a fall in training and following physio treatment was referred for MRI scans to investigate. It was during these scans that a suspected tumour was located within his upper arm. Following subsequent biopsies, this has been confirmed as low-grade chondroid sarcoma, which is a rare type of cancer.
“Although the treatment plan and timings are still being discussed with medical experts, chondroid sarcoma can only be treated through surgery, with a good success rate. The club are working with Connor to ensure he gets all the support he needs during this difficult period through to his recovery.
“Connor continues to be around his teammates at Carrington, staying fit and strong, and supporting the club in all its games and activities.”
All of Jennings’ former clubs, and a host of teammates past and present, have rallied in support of the popular striker.
Jennings tweeted: “Overwhelmed by all the messages I’ve received in the last couple days… it’s been a tough week but special thanks to @StockportCounty & the lads for all their support. And as always my family who are with me every step of the way.”
