CHORLEY go into Monday’s tricky test at fast-improving Stalybridge in good heart after regaining fourth place among the playoffs chasers.
They had to work hard before wearing down a stubborn City defence but once in front the Magpies rarely looked like losing the lead. And their path to three points would have been smoother but for a fine save by keeper Ethan Ross from a Jason Walker penalty.
Both teams found a bobbly pitch challenging and there was more effort than artistry in the often scrappy exchanges.
