CARL PIERGIANNI’S header at the end of the first half was enough to maintain Salford City’s three-point lead at the top of the National League North.
The Ammies would dominate possession for much of the afternoon, but a well-organised Gainsborough Trinity side proved hard to break down.
Tom Walker hit the post early on for the hosts, while at the other end Nicky Walker tested visiting stopper Tim Erlandsson with a stinging effort.
Both sides went on to create a few half chances before Salford went ahead seconds before the interval.
