YORK climbed within touching distance of the play-offs after victory in front of a record crowd at the LNER Community Stadium.
The Minstermen set the tone early on with veteran striker Clayton Donaldson glancing a header inches wide in the first minute.
And the breakthrough came from the most unlikely of sources, defender Matty Brown heading home his first goal for York on 29 minutes after Olly Dyson curled a cross in following a short corner.
