MICHAEL Liddle’s first-half own goal ensured Blyth Spartans’ return to action after a two-week break ended in defeat despite a second-half fight back.
Boston made six changes but it was Blyth who started well with Nicky Deverdics lifting an early free kick over the bar and just wide.
Danny Elliott then curled narrowly wide at the other end before the striker, set up by Fraser Preston, was denied by Spartans keeper Alex Mitchell.
A Blyth mix-up gave Elliott the chance to put the Pilgrims ahead but Toby Lees saved the day, only for the Pilgrims to take a 24th minute lead.
