SOUTHPORT boosted their hopes of a play-off spot in a game of two penalties at Edgar Street.
The visitors seemed somewhat fortuitous to be awarded theirs, just after the interval, when a shot through a crowd of players struck Ben Pollock’s hand.
Charlie Oliver stepped up to roll home his spotkick for his first Sandgrounders goal.
Hereford’s penalty, 12 minutes from time, came when referee Ross Martin was alerted by an assistant to an offence following the home side’s first corner of the game.
