A STOP-start first half, and nine added minutes, produced three goals. Alfreton took the lead in the 12th minute when Liam Waldock coolly finished from close range after Gerry McDonagh nodded the ball down to him.
Southport bounced back in the 24th minute when Marcus Carver capitalised on a bad back-pass and finished well from a tight angle to bring the scores level. It was Carver again in the eighth added minute of the half who gave the home side the lead, finishing through a crowded penalty area after the visitors failed to clear a corner.
