ALFRETON boosted their play-off bid against Darlington, who move closer to relegation.
Darlington nearly scored in the first minute, when Scott Barrow, on his return after illness, crossed low from the left for Ben Liddle to put in a diving header that Alfreton keeper George Willis just managed to push away. Cedric Main tried to chip the rebound from a tight angle, but the ball bounced off the bar.
The hosts went close when Liddle curled a corner over for centre-half Cardo Siddik to head wide from six yards out.
