CURZON ASHTON club captain Alex Brown has decided to retire after leading the club through one of its most successful periods.
The former Hyde United, Chester and Droylsden midfielder signed for the Nash two years ago and has been a big part of the team that won promotion from the Evo-Stik NPL Premier before consolidating in the National League North last season.
He made 40 appearances and scored three times last term as Curzon finished 11th in their debut season at Step 2.
However, they will have to do without Brown next season after he announced his retirement to spend more time on his family and business commitments.
Boss John Flanagan told the club’s website: “I would like to thank Alex for a fantastic two seasons with the club.
“With him, we have gained promotion from the Evo-Stik Premier Division via the play-offs and established ourselves in the National League North.
“Alex has been a pleasure to manage. He is a fantastic lad, a great leader and a true example for everybody.
“He is a popular lad and a real Rolls Royce of a footballer, always playing to the highest quality. Thank you very much, Alex. All the very best for the future.”
Goalkeeper Hakan Burton has been handed the armband for next season while a new vice-captain will be announced in the near future.
