DEFENDER Ryan Sammons grabbed his first two goals of the season to light up the FutureFuel Stadium as East Thurrock saw off the brave but ultimately flawed challenge of Whitehawk, who played the second half with ten men after Nathaniel Oseni was sent off.
For a brief moment it looked as if an upset from the winless Hawks might be on the cards as new signing Nathaniel Pinney capitalised on slack defending in the ninth minute to score.
Rocks equalised on 19 minutes though when top scorer Sam Higgins crashed the ball home from close range.
